HHS to perform “Bye Bye Birdie”

Seniors will say farewell to the Hastings high school theater department with performances this week of “Bye Bye Birdie.”

Performances will be Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. at the Hastings High School Auditorium.

For seniors in the production, it’s an exciting end to their high school theater careers.

Kiara Carson, who portrays Kim MacAfee, said she did the show in the fifth grade. She’s sad to reach the end of her high school acting career, but she’s glad to see the show come to fruition after starting work on it in January.

“We’re excited,” she said. “It’s been a long time coming.”

Joe Prickett, who plays Albert Peterson, said every senior in the cast has been doing it a long time.

“We’re doing it with all of our friends,” he said. “It’s a good way to go out.”

Nick Howard, who portrays Conrad Birdie, plans to continue with theater in college but said nothing could replace his fellow students in high school theater.

“They’re my family,” he said.
