Utilities saw major projects, stable finances in ‘13

Hastings Utilities checked several major projects off of its to-do list in 2013 while anticipating challenges in environmental standards, energy markets and cost efficiency going into the future.

The Board of Public Works heard HU’s year-end data and budget report at its regular meeting Tuesday, calling to mind some of the biggest obstacles overcome in the past year and the pace set for 2014 and beyond.

“(Last year) was a stable financial year for us, but we are constantly tackling big projects as we seek to maintain reliability and cost competitiveness for our ratepayers,” said HU Manager Marv Schultes after the meeting.
