A combination of wind, hail and sleet Tuesday made for slick sidewalks and roads across Tribland and knocked out power to as many as 4,000 people.
Sustained winds of 15-20 mph pushed around the falling sleet and ice during the lightning and thundersleet downpour Tuesday afternoon and early evening, blanketing car windshields and roads with thick sheets of ice.
"It was awful," Scott Bryant of the National Weather Service in Hastings said this morning. "I couldn't even get out of the office parking lot yesterday. Getting pummeled by sleet wasn't much fun.
"The icy conditions are what I've really noticed more than anything. There really wasn't much damage from the hail. Certainly, the icy streets are going to be the most impact people are going to remember from this storm system."
