Even though she is no longer a caregiver, Judy Dixon of Hastings plans to attend Thursday's Day of Caring for Those Who Care.
Instead of learning, she hopes to encourage others by sharing her story and tips she has learned over the years. Despite the challenges involved in providing care for a family member, her message to other caregivers would be: "Don't give up."
Judy, 64, spent about 10 years caring for her husband, Walt, before he died last year.
On the mantle above her fireplace, there is a photograph of Walt with a display box of his military medals. There is also a flag from his military funeral, a cap pronouncing him a Vietnam vet and a toy utility truck.
