Courthouse upgrades save on utilities

Adams County staff have seen the county courthouse’s utility bills drop several thousand dollars below what they were a few years ago and the plunge is already giving the county budget a little bit of breathing room.

The change can be attributed to a number of energy-efficient updates executed in the 52-year-old courthouse, 500 W. Fourth Street, in the last several years.

In 2011, Adams County was the recipient of over $170,000 in state grant funds distributed to counties for the implementation of energy-saving building features. The county focused its application on new windows for the Adams County Office Building at 300 N. St. Joseph Ave.
