UPDATE: 4:00 p.m.-Toddler shot by rifle

A 4-year-old Hastings boy was killed Friday morning after being accidentally shot with a rifle while at home, according to Adams County Attorney Donna Fegler Daiss.

Beau Pecor of 907 N. Saunders Ave. was transported immediately to Mary Lanning Healthcare where he died, Daiss stated in a news release.

Daiss did not release how the rifle was fired, but family members were present in the home at the time of the shooting. Hastings police officers were dispatched to the home at about 8:20 a.m.

While preliminary reports indicate the boy’s injuries were the result of an accident, Daiss stated that police officers are continuing to investigate the shooting.

An autopsy was performed Friday afternoon as required by statute of any person under age 19 who suddenly dies, stated Daiss, who is also acting as Adams County coroner.
