This spring, Hastings Utilities was given a nationally recognized designation as a highly reliable utility service provider and the entity is hopeful that the benchmark will have a positive influence on economic development in the city.
HU was certified as a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) by the American Public Power Association earlier this month and the Board of Public Works learned the significance of the award at its regular meeting Thursday.
The RP3 program recognizes utilities across the country that demonstrate high proficiency in reliability, safety of employees and customers, work force development and system improvement. Criteria within each of the four RP3 areas are based upon sound business and industry practices.
“The value of the study lies in that it validates the strong areas of our operation and provides a gauge for improving areas where we may be lacking,” said Steve Cogley, HU’s customer relations coordinator, who headed the application process.
