Teen turns himself into police

A 17-year-old escapee missing since Thursday is back in police custody and sitting in Adams County Jail.

Zachary Vaught of 831 S. St. Joseph Ave. turned himself into police about 12:17 a.m. Sunday at the Hastings Police Department, 317 S. Burlington Ave.

Vaught ran from custody at the Adams County Courthouse, 500 W. Fourth St., Thursday at about 5:30 p.m. He escaped while in handcuffs and without shoes.

Sgt. Steve Murphy said Vaught wasn’t in handcuffs at the time he reported to the police station and didn’t provide a statement about where he had been since his escape.
