For the first few years after Jacey Sutton adopted her dog, Shiloh, from a pet rescue shelter near her home in Wahoo, the canine could hardly be constrained by a leash. He would bark, snarl at other dogs, and run off at every opportunity.
Sutton knew, however, that with a few years of work, Shiloh could be trained in obedience and people skills with the help of the methods she had seen used in her 4-H club.
"I saw the older kids at competitions who were able to do amazing things with their dogs," said Sutton, 15. "And that drove me to persevere with Shiloh."
Sutton was one of more than 50 4-H students who participated in the fifth annual 4-H Dog Expo at the Adams County Fairgrounds Saturday, an event hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension office.
