City to start street project

The city’s engineering department and Werner Construction Co. of Hastings will begin a resurfacing project on University Boulevard between East Side Boulevard and Turner Avenue this week.

The project includes the milling of the existing asphalt and the placement of new asphalt surface. Crews are slated to begin work Thursday.

The project will be built under traffic and residents on University will retain access to their homes throughout most of the project. However, during the placement of asphalt, traffic may be restricted in sections for up to 24 hours at a time to allow materials to cool adequately.

Questions about the project or the timeline of construction may be directed to the city engineering office 402-461-2330.

The University Boulevard project was among about $900,000 of planned city improvements that were postponed from 2013 to 2014.
