There's no easy way around it. Last year, we were spoiled.
Spring came early in 2012. The last snowfall of the year was Feb. 12. With no snow and temperatures up in March and April, we were running around in shorts and T-shirts, attending sporting events and even going for a nice jog outside.
It is now April 24 — 114 days into 2013 — and last spring seems like a fantasy.
March and April brought 11.6 inches of snow this year. The average temperature of April last year was 55.5 degrees. This year: 41.7.
We have been forced to keep the coats out of storage, add 15 minutes to our routine for scraping windshields, and fight the temptation to believe that maybe this snowfall will be the last. Perhaps even worse, we've been deprived of way too many sporting events.
The weather has kept many athletic teams inside and away from competition. We're seeing more announcements about cancellations and postponements than we are seeing box scores and meet results.
