6-foot piece of art stolen from HC

Hastings College is on the lookout for a 6-foot print of mischievous rabbits.

The college is dealing with mischief of its own, having reported on Tuesday the theft of “Rabits Invade the Honorable Mr Y’s Studio.”

The 6-foot-by-3-foot woodcut print created in 1990 by Kentucky artist Joel Feldman hung in the stairwell at the west entrance to the Hastings College Art Center at 711 E. Seventh St. It is valued at $3,000.

“We will have to make some changes, since we have now had several significant thefts in the past year,” Turner McGehee, chairman of the HC art department, wrote in an email. “I am very reluctant to restrict student access to our facilities, because I believe that this is an advantage that students enjoy at Hastings College. But we will certainly have to have more surveillance equipment.”

There are no leads to the print’s whereabouts at this time.
