Dogs learn new tricks at expo


Teagan Kennel was pleased with the way Murphy could trot at a fast pace, turn right, turn left and sit down.

The 13-year-old Broken Bow girl and her 7-year-old Beagle were among the competitors in the rally event as part of the Canine Companions for Life Nebraska 4-H Dog Expo Saturday at the Adams County Fairgrounds.

“Pretty good,” she said when asked to assess the pair’s performance. “I think we could’ve improved our time.”

How could they improve their time? Practice.
Kennel and Murphy’s Saturday afternoon run through on the rally course, which had signs placed with specific directions for the dog, was the first time they had done the event. Ever.

She just learned what rally event entailed on Saturday morning.

“Never heard of it and it sounded fun,” she said.
