Some buildings at the Hastings Regional Center may be torn down and it's not because city or state officials want to see them go.
In reality, it's that there is no one interested in spending the money to update the buildings on the west edge of Hastings, according to Sen. Les Seiler of Hastings and City Administrator Joe Patterson. The HRC campus became a point of discussion during the Coffee with the Senator event Saturday in Hastings.
Seiler first updated two bills that would overhaul the juvenile justice system, which could mean an increase in the number of juveniles brought into the programs now housed at HRC.
Currently, HRC has a 24-bed program to treat juvenile boys paroled from the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Kearney for drug abuse and behavioral health treatment.
