She never envisioned living in any part of Nebraska.
The plan was to live in Hastings for five years and possibly move to Colorado where her husband attended grad school.
Now nearly 50 years later, Judy Reimer considers Hastings home and has embraced the city.
"What I thought was going to be temporary turned into 48 years," she said. "Hastings, as it turned out, has afforded me so many opportunities."
Although Reimer originally thought of the move as a temporary living arrangement, she came to love the city and became involved in improving the community. She has been recognized several times for her contributions to the community she now calls home. Her most recent recognition was the YWCA's Tribute to Women award on April 18.
