Six Korean War combat veterans from the area Tuesday received Quilts of Valor at the Adams County Office Building to recognize their military service.
“We were part of that forgotten war,” said veteran Gene Cookus. “Sixty-three years afterward, it’s nice to be honored. It makes us feel that maybe it was worthwhile after all.”
Chris Long, Adams County Veteran Services officer, awarded the quilts on behalf of the Quilts of Valor Foundation. He explained that the group has made more than 10,000 quilts that have been handed out to veterans.
