The Hastings High boys soccer team did something Tuesday that it hasn’t done in four seasons. In fact, it’s something that a lot of Nebraska teams haven’t done in that time.
It beat Class A powerhouse Grand Island.
The Class B No. 10 Tigers (3-2) received two goals apiece from seniors Guillermo Antunez and Rudy Escobar while utilizing a strong defensive effort to hand the No. 8 Islanders (2-2) a 4-0 shutout — their fifth loss to anybody the past four seasons.
“We respect Grand Island. They’re a great team and they’ve had a great program for years and years. We knew that they would come in and be a tough team to beat, and we talked about that we needed to make sure we played smart and simple,” said Hastings High head coach Mike Nanfito.
