Pitching dominated the Hastings College softball team's doubleheader against Midland on Wednesday. Both Bronco starting pitchers allowed some runs early, but quickly found their groove, mowing down the Warriors at the Smith Softball Complex.
It also helped that the offense lit up the scoreboard with a total of 14 runs in the two games.
The result was Hastings College opening GPAC play with a pair of wins in what was also the Broncos' home opener, winning the opener 6-3 and taking the nightcap 8-3.
Hastings head coach Troy Baker couldn't have scripted a better start to conference play.
"Anytime you can come out in your conference opener, play at home in front of a good crowd, and beat a team like Midland ... what can you say? We played well. We came ready to play," said Baker, whose Broncos improved to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in the GPAC. "It looks like we have a pretty solid ballclub."
