Hawkettes top Superior for first

FAIRFIELD — The St. Cecilia girls track and field team faced tough competition Tuesday, but still managed to emerge victorious.

The Hawkettes cruised to a win at the Sandy Creek invite, totaling 145 points. Superior was second with 126 points, while Sutton was third with 90. Sandy Creek (57) finished fifth, and Harvard was eighth.

STC head coach Alan VanCura said the Hawkettes got some big performances from some key athletes.

“We had some kids who competed really well,” he said. “We don’t have a lot of kids, but it seems like we’re getting quite a few of them to contribute.”
