The combination of the cold, fall-like weather and the sight of the Hastings College football team could be quite confusing. It would be easy to make the mistake of assuming the Broncos were preparing for a Saturday game in October.
Instead, Hastings is getting ready to wrap up its spring practices. On Thursday at 6 p.m., HC will host its annual Bronco Roundup at Lloyd Wilson Field, culminating the end of spring practice. That event is open to the public.
One of the many position battles that will be intriguing to watch is at the quarterback position. Before the spring started, HC head coach Tony Harper said Matt Overmiller will go into the spring season as "the guy." Harper said the Adams Central graduate has only gotten better.
"The first thing that kind of steps out of my mind is how he's matured," Harper said of the junior. "Matt is a very easy going type of guy, and that's great to have. You don't want a guy that gets rattled at the quarterback position.
"We just have to make sure he continues to improve when spring ball is over, in the film room and out when they do some individual stuff. He's done a great job this spring."
