GRAND ISLAND — Some of the top track and field talent descended on Grand Island Wednesday, when Northwest hosted the Central Nebraska Track and Field Championships.
Athletes from all classes competed against one another and against chilly temperatures and gusting winds.
In a meet where only the top three earn medals, the St. Cecilia boys and girls teams combined for an impressive five individual medals, including three first-place finishes.
"I was really happy with the way our kids competed today. The weather wasn't ideal to start off with and cold temperatures, but we have to get used to that," STC coach Alan VanCura said. "Overall I thought we competed well."
Nick Brouillette won the pole vault in his first meet back from an injury with a height of 12 feet, 6 inches. Brouillette and Ord's Kamron Dawe battled in an extended tie breaker, which wore down both competitors.
