The Hastings College softball team picked up two more big victories in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, sweeping Dakota Wesleyan 7-0 and 3-2 Thursday at the Smith Softball Complex.
The Broncos (22-8 overall, 12-2 GPAC) strengthened their spot on top of the conference standings, where they now lead second-place Morningside (22-11, 11-3) by one game with each team having four games remaining.
Dakota Wesleyan dropped to 6-20 overall and 4-8 in the GPAC with its sixth straight loss. The Broncos have a good chance to pick up two more wins this weekend when it hosts Mount Marty (2-18, 2-10), a team still searching for its first road win of the season, on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Broncos then conclude the regular season with a Sunday doubleheader at Doane.
HC junior pitcher McKenzie Welchert kept DWU in check in game one, earning her third complete game shutout this season. She gave up four hits, walked one batter and struck out four.
