FAIRFIELD — A rural Fairfield woman died near here Monday afternoon after the vehicle she was driving collided with the back end of a farm truck, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Haley Bohlen, 31, died as a result of the collision 1 1/2 miles west of Fairfield on Nebraska Highway 74.
A rear-facing infant passenger in the vehicle Bohlen was driving was taken by ambulance to Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings. The Sheriff’s Office received word late Tuesday morning that the child was recovering and was well.
According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, Bohlen was westbound in a 2009 Ford Expedition sport-utility vehicle about 4:10 p.m. Monday when the SUV collided with a westbound straight truck. The truck had slowed and was preparing to turn south into a field entrance.
The truck driver was taken to Mary Lanning for treatment of minor injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Fairfield Fire and Rescue, Clay Center Fire and Rescue, the Nebraska State Patrol, the Clay County Highway Department and the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
The update on the infant’s condition was posted around 11 a.m. Tuesday and included condolences for all affected by Monday’s crash.
“We express our deepest sympathy for (Bohlen’s) family and all others involved,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
