Turtle racing draws big turnout at Nuckolls County Fair

at the Nuckolls County Fair Wednesday.

NELSON — The turtle population in and around Nuckolls County should return to normal.

Four-legged competitors in Wednesday afternoon’s annual Nuckolls County Fair turtle races were returned to the wild. The event, which saw nine heats, had 103 human entrants.

Race organizer, 31-year-old Lance Williams of Nora said the turtle races have been going as long as he can remember.

“It really brings the crowd,” he said. “It’s one of the most popular events to end the fair up it seems like.”
