retired Friday after 17 years. He is pictured at his party

Now that Ron Sanders has retired, he has decided that every day will be Saturday — except one.

"There are no more Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays," he said. "There are only six Saturdays and a Sunday. That's my week anymore. I do not recognize any of the other oddball days that are in between there.

"If my wife (Barb) has something for me to do, I can tell her I'll get it done on Saturday, but I didn't tell her which Saturday."

On Friday, Sanders, 68, retired after 17 years at Hastings Utilities. The last 14 years were spent as director of operations.

At his retirement party Friday in the conference room at HU, fellow employees gave him a gift with which he could remember them.
