A push last month for more donations has boosted blood supplies but the amount on hand is still lower than previous years during the summer months.
In late July, the American Red Cross put out a plea for blood donors as stockpiles were down nationally by 8 percent.
“The good news is we did see a strong response in those 10 days following our launch of an appeal on July 22,” said Katie Marshall, external communications manager of the American Red Cross in Omaha. “We saw an increase of about 9 percent, so that was very good because we saw a decrease of 8 percent over 11 weeks (before that.) In just 10 days, we saw it jump back up 9 percent.”
Meanwhile, Nebraska was only down 3 percent prior to July 22.
