Pete Kortum seemed to enjoy his first National Night Out as police chief in Hastings.

He was among the city officials to walk around Chautauqua Park Tuesday evening for the 30th annual National Night Out.
Kortum had attended similar National Night Out events while working for the Grand Island Police Department, ranging from small gatherings around a kitchen table to block parties organized by neighborhood associations.

“I’ve never seen an entire city come together for a National Night Out event,” he said. “I think it’s a great idea.”
