DESHLER — The Thayer County Fair board wanted to do something special to honor Brent Drohman, a guy who did so much for the fair.

So, it named the Thayer County Fair’s annual races for the 28-year-old Davenport man and Deshler native, who died Oct. 19, 2013, of a heart attack while racing at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction.

Hot laps for Brent Drohman Memorial Race Mods, followed by trailer races, took place Saturday evening at the fairgrounds in Deshler.

“He was a local guy, and he helped out a lot around the fair,” said Tim Wenske of Byron, fair board president. “He didn’t have to but he just volunteered help. He helped us put on races and helped do stuff around the fairgrounds just because he was a nice guy.”
