Girl wants playground

Jadyn Shoemaker, 11, is pictured on the future site of a
playground at the Crossroads Center in Hastings Friday.
Shoemaker got inspired to start fundraising for the
playground while touring the facility with her Girl Scout
troop.

Jadyn Shoemaker has a big dream. The 11-year-old Hastings girl wants to build a playground at the Crossroads Rescue Mission, 702 W. 14th St.

To that end, she is raising money to put up some equipment at the homeless shelter.

Her efforts include writing a letter asking for donations, walking with her 8-year-old sister, Shayli, to downtown businesses asking for help and appearing on the local television station.

Jadyn's mission started shortly after she toured Crossroads during an outing with her Girl Scout group.
