The Hastings City Council now has two empty seats following the resignation of first ward councilman Todd Oatman last week and second ward councilman Roger Glen in June.
Oatman submitted his letter of resignation to Mayor Vern Powers last week, reducing the number of active city council seats to six. Oatman said that he had started a new job that required more hours and that he wouldn't have as much time as he would like to devote to the council.
"Being on the council takes a lot of time and dedication, and your career has to come first. I understand his move completely," Powers said. "I appreciate the time he served with us."
