CLAY CENTER — As Michaela Goracke told students in her language arts class about her family Thursday afternoon — the students were particularly impressed she has a brother who works for the Federal Bureau of Investigation — everyone in the room was experiencing a first.
In the three years since the Clay Center school district became part of Sandy Creek and South Central Unified School District No. 5, the Sandy Creek school at Clay Center was used as an elementary school. It is now the middle school.
Thursday was the first day of the new school year.
"The middle school here... it is different and people are going to have to get used to it," secondary principal Jason Searle said. "But otherwise the kids are fine and they've been acclimated very quickly and they'll do all right. It's probably the adults who will struggle more than anyone else."
