SUTTON — Dealing with infections in her liver for years, Sheila Nuss now is on the mend after receiving a portion of her sister's liver.

Sheila of Sutton, 42, received one-third of sister Shelly Leon's liver during a July 9 surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

"Before she had the transplant she was so sick, it's just taken awhile longer for her to get over everything," Sheila Nuss's 17-year-old daughter, Brittany Nuss said. "The main thing is just getting rid of all the infections."

Sheila has been sick as long as Brittany has been alive, due to ulcerative colitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis diseases.
