Rehabilitation begins on Blue River

ROSELAND — The willow and catalpa trees near here along the Little Blue River on Dennis Trausch's property were no match for the tree saw.

The big saw, attached to the arm of an excavator, sliced through the trees with no problem. As the saw struck, each tree exploded sending chunks of wood along the river bank and into the water.

A crew from Frahm Construction of North Loup is using excavators to clear 120-miles of river, from Campbell east to the Thayer-Jefferson county line. The project began in July and is facilitated by the Twin Valley Weed Management Area.

"Twin Valley, that's two rivers, all of our work the past six years has been on the Republican," TVWMA project coordinator Merle Illian said. "A lot of the people up here on the Blue River are aware there's money available."
