City picking up branches

The city of Hastings announced Monday morning that city crews will be picking up downed limbs left on public terraces until Saturday.

Sunday night's wind storm caused citywide tree damage and a number of large trees were knocked down in yards, parks, and onto streets. The city's first priority will be to clear the parks and trees blocking streets.

After that, city crews from the parks and street departments will be working to pick up tree debris left on public terraces. Citizens are asked to not pile limbs in the street or on sidewalks. Crews will make only one pass through the community.

In addition, Hastings residents can take damaged limbs and trees to the city's Solid Waste Landfill/Wood Waste Facility at no charge through Saturday. Out of city residents will be charged the normal fee.

The terrace pick up will take some time to complete because of the scope of the damage and the city's loss of seasonal staff. Citizens are encouraged to transport their limbs, if possible.

The hours at the landfill are 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
