YMCA, city collaborate on aquatics position

Attendance at the pools at the Aquacourt Water Park and the Hastings Family YMCA varies depending on the weather.

On warm, summer days, the Aquacourt is the splash of choice; in the winter, however, the YMCA pools see bigger waves of swimmers.

So when the YMCA was looking to improve the staffing and operations of its aquatics program earlier this year, it made sense to pool the schedules and resources of the two entities to form one, year-round aquatics management system.

"We're really excited about this. It makes good sense," said Recreation Superintendent Ryan Martin. "We will have consistency in the management and training of our lifeguards and swim lessons all year long."

The YMCA chose Collette Buskirk of Kearney for the aquatics director position and she started work in Hastings at the end of July.
