Council increases pay

Members of the Hastings City Council will be compensated an additional $1,400 in the future for their public service.

At Monday’s meeting, the City Council voted to increase annual pay for council members from $3,600 to $5,000 per year.

The raise won’t take effect until each council member is re-elected to a new term.

The council passed the wage increase on a vote of 5-1, with Councilman Chuck Niemeyer being the lone nay vote. Council members Michael Krings and Kathy Peterson were not at the meeting.

The council also increased the mayor’s pay from $9,600 to $10,000 annually on the same 5-1 vote with Niemeyer voting in opposition.
