HPS overcoming test challenges

Demographic challenges are no match for the work of students and staff at Hastings Public Schools when it comes to state testing.

The Nebraska Department of Education released the results of the 2014 Nebraska State Accountability testing Tuesday.

According to the results, nearly three of every four Nebraska public school students met state reading, math and science standards in 2013-14.

“When you consider the challenges we have compared to other parts of the state, and to be above state average in reading math and science on average, that signals we are an effective district,” said Chad Dumas, the HPS director of curriculum, instruction and assessment.
