Mustaches from the past resurfaced Thursday night for the first annual Stache Bash that raised $21,658 for the Special Children's Fund at Mary Lanning Healthcare.

Mustaches4Kids participants dressed as a variety of mustached characters including Trooper Rodney Farva from "Super Troopers," Nick "Goose" Bradshaw from "Top Gun," and Captain Kangaroo from his television show of the same name.

Stache Bash 2013, which was held at Illusions Lounge at Pastime Lanes, was the final event of the year for a group of men who raised money for the children's fund by growing mustaches. Each mustache grower agreed to not shave under the nose through the month of August.

Bob Sullivan of Hastings emceed Thursday's event as Father Guido Sarducci, Don Novello's chain-smoking priest with tinted eyeglasses from the 1970s who appeared on "Saturday Night Live."

"It's always fun to let your hair down, especially when it's for a good cause," Sullivan said.
