HHS dominant in season opener

Hastings High center fielder Kehgan Grier makes a play on a Minden hit
in the first inning Thursday night at Smith Softball Complex in Hastings.

Hastings High head coach Pete Theoharis put two freshmen in his starting lineup on the Tigers’ opening night contest Thursday against Minden at the Smith Softball Complex.

Jennifer Boeve and Olivia Douglas more than held their own in the 17-4 victory. Boeve was Hastings’ best offensive threat as she went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to go along with three runs scored. Douglas had a hit on offense and then came into pitch the third and final inning where she allowed a leadoff walk but rebounded with two strikeouts against the Whippets.

“We were both excited and thrilled,” said Boeve after her successful debut. “(Olivia and I) were both a little nervous, of course, but once the game got started we felt more comfortable. We’ve been preparing for this all summer.”
