STC overcomes turnovers, penalties for victory

St. Cecilia quarterback Grant Schmidt beats Ravenna
linebacker Josh McGuigan on a keeper Friday night at
Duncan Field.

Teamwork and solid defense got St. Cecilia to an opening-night victory on a night when the Bluehawks were less than polished in several facets of the game.

St. Cecilia defeated Ravenna 37-13 Friday at Duncan field. Bluehawks head coach Carl Tesmer gave Ravenna a lot of credit afterward.

"Ravenna's got a nice football team, they played tough," he said. "Those kids are tough kids. They played under a lot of adversity and they came out of it. We had a lot of good turnovers and didn't get anything done with them."

The Bluehawks had 330 yards on offense and 194 return yards but lost three fumbles and had seven penalties for 60 yards.
