Adams Central's Jordan Nash returns a serve during his
doubles match with Cody Levene against Kearney Catholic's
John Stuart and Noah Huddleston Thursday in Hastings.
The Adams Central tennis team has made itself known at the previous two state tournaments. The Patriots followed their 2010 Class B state title with a third-place performance last season. This year, AC has lots of experience and high expectations.
The Patriots started the season off on the right foot, winning their first dual 6-3 over Kearney Catholic Thursday at the Hastings Utilities tennis courts. Despite the win, head coach Rod Hartman said he saw some things from his team that didn't resemble a team expecting to compete for a state championship.
"I thought we were very flat. We kind of just went through the motions all the way through," Hartman said. "We didn't play like we are capable of playing. If we play like this through the rest of the year, it's going to be tough to accomplish the goals that we're setting out to try to accomplish."
