Eagles knock off E-M, start 2-0

against Hampton Thursday in Shickley.

SHICKLEY — The Bruning-Davenport/Shickley volleyball team gave its home fans quite a show on the first night of the season.

In their opening match of a triangular against Hampton, the Eagles fell in the first set and trailed early in the second. But the team rallied and captured the next two sets to escape with a 23-25, 25-23, 26-24 win. That would set things up for their showdown against Exeter-Milligan, a rematch of the 2011 Class D-1 state semifinals.

And the Eagles got their redemption.

After losing to E-M three times last year, Class D-1 No. 4 BDS knocked off the No. 2 Timberwolves in thrilling fashion — 17-25, 27-25, 27-25 — in front of a packed and loud gym Thursday night at Shickley. It's only the ninth loss in four seasons for Exeter-Milligan, which downed Class D-2 No. 10 Hampton 25-13, 25-18 in the second match of Thursday's triangular.
