BRUNING — A Bruning man was arrested at his residence here Thursday on suspicion of methamphetamine possession after authorities executed a search warrant there.
Charges related to child pornography also are pending against Shane Smith, 50, the Nebraska State Patrol announced in a news release. The investigation continues.
On Thursday, investigators with NSP’s Technical Crimes Division executed the search warrant at 324 S. Fillmore St. in Bruning. NSP had sought the search warrant after receiving a “cyber-tip” through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
During the search, officers found multiple images of child pornography along with methamphetamine, NSP said.
Smith, who is a registered sex offender, was taken into custody and lodged in the Thayer County Jail in Hebron.
Smith was one of three people arrested this week for possession of child porn or possession of methamphetamine in separate investigations conducted by the State Patrol’s Technical Crimes Division.
On Wednesday, investigators executed a search warrant in Waverly and found more than 100 images of child porn in a cloud-based storage account, as well as more images on devices in the residence.
Colin Gierke, 24, was arrested for possession and distribution of child porn. He was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail in Lincoln.
On Friday, officers executed a search warrant at 2325 N. Broadwell Ave. No. 105 in Grand Island and found multiple images of child porn. Michael Taylor, 53, was arrested for possession of child porn and lodged in the Hall County Jail.
All three of this week’s arrests were prompted by cyber-tips through the the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The center receives cyber-tips from various technology companies and provides information to the Nebraska State Patrol that can be used to begin investigations.
