Fillmore Central senior makes highway sign his Eagle Scout project

Tyler Loontjer stands Thursday alongside the new "Welcome
to Geneva" sign at the west entrance to town on Nebraska
Highway 41. Building the sign was his Eagle Scout project.

GENEVA — The Boy Scouts of America organization has led Tyler Loontjer down many exciting roads in his seven years as a member.

His latest journey was to the west edge of Nebraska Highway 41 on the outskirts of Geneva where he put up a "Welcome to Geneva" sign—his service project that has helped him earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

The Eagle Scout Badge is scouting's highest honor. About 4 percent of all Boy Scouts attain the rank.

Loontjer, 17, is a senior at Fillmore Central High School. He was awarded the badge at a Court of Honor Nov. 10 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Geneva.  Scoutmaster Scott Eichelberger presided at the event.
