Adams County now has guaranteed beds at Northeast Nebraska Juvenile Services for juveniles requiring a jail stay.
The Adams County Board of Supervisors approved a contract with the detention center in Madison at its meeting Tuesday.
As the number of juveniles in Adams County requiring detention continues to increase, County Attorney Donna Fegler Daiss asked the board in September for its guidance in a possible contract with the facility, which is 122 miles from Hastings.
By law juveniles cannot be held in the same jail as adults.
Fegler Daiss said the county had contracts with Boys Town in Grand Island for $138 a day and Lancaster County Youth Services Center in Lincoln for $236 a day. Those contracts guaranteed a rate, but didn't guarantee a space. That meant Adams County could be turned away when the facilities were full.
