Shopping for Mom and Dad for Christmas can be a challenge — especially when you’re 10 years old.

That’s why the Home and School Association at St. Michael’s Elementary hosted the Santa Shoppe this week to give kids the chance to shop for their families.

Amy Landgren, one of the event’s organizers, said the program is a great way for kids to be independent, budget their money and shop for their family members without another family member watching over their shoulder.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade were invited to bring a little money and shop for items.

The items ranged from 50 cents to $10 and included everything from pens with labels like “Aunt,” “Uncle” and “Mom” to stuffed animals, small tools, Husker prints, jewelry and everything in between.
