Council to consider Ninth Street closure

The Hastings City Council is slated to consider Monday a development agreement with Hastings College to move forward with closure of Ninth Street through the campus.

In 2010, Hastings College administrators unveiled plans to update the campus, which included a proposal to close Ninth Street between Elm and Ash avenues to join the north and south parts of the campus.

City officials and Hastings College officials have spoke several times discussing the logistics of closing the street and what it would mean for the city.

On Monday, the City Council will consider an agreement to plan the development and requirements for the street closure.

According to the agreement, on or about June 1, 2014, the college would file an application to vacate that portion of street.
