Children come for Santa, stay for the crafts

Adrian Hughes during Breakfast and Santa
Saturday morning at Hastings Museum. Hughes
asked Santa for a bow and arrow.

On the morning that his children — Ethan, 9, and Aubrie and Alexis, both 6 — shared their Christmas lists with Santa, Jared Pehrson of Hastings said his three youngsters actually preferred making crafts.

“Actually it seemed like they wanted to keep making their ornaments to be honest, which is a good thing because then it’s not like you’re waiting all day,” he said.

Pehrson’s children — who asked Santa for electric scooters, iPhones, a Nintendo 3DS and pianos — were among about 80 who attended the fifth annual Breakfast and Santa at the Hastings Museum of Natural and Cultural History. Jenny Korte, museum director of visitor services, said about 45 parents and grandparents were there, too.
