Special delivery startles Horizon Recovery staff

Carol Harrenstein, Peg Mohlman, JoAnn Hunter, and director
Dan Rutt are pictured with a package mysteriously left in
front of the center's office door over the lunch hour
Monday afternoon.

The large mysterious box left in front of Horizon Recovery and Counseling Center at 835 S. Burlington Ave. over the lunch hour Monday looked like trouble to director Dan Rutt.

“At first, I thought it was a bomb,” Rutt said sheepishly. “As I got closer, I cautiously looked at the box and it said, ‘To Horizon Recovery and Counseling Center: From Santa.’ So we got a couple of staff together, carried it inside, opened it up, and were thoroughly surprised.”
Inside the box, a note written on stationary bearing the image of Santa Claus explained the giver’s intention.

“Inside this box are some items that I wanted to donate to you and your staff for your Unity Houses,” the note read. “It’s not much, but I hope this helps at least a little bit. The chocolate and the candy are for your whole staff at Horizon Recovery Center. Hope you enjoy. Merry Christmas to all of you. Santa.”
