Then and Now: Gibson's

Gibson's Discount Center opened at 835 S. Burlington Ave. in
September 1963.

Then: In the 1970s, Gibson's Discount Center provided everything from groceries and pharmaceuticals to housewares and garden supplies.

And for one week each summer, shoppers would flood the store's parking lot in droves for the tent sale that boasted 25-cent hot dogs and dozens of sales on everything from crackers to fresh watermelons sold out of a horse tank.

Now: The business has been closed for more than 20 years but that doesn't mean Gibson's, which stood on the site of South Burlington Plaza, 837 S. Burlington Ave., doesn't still conjure up many memories.
